One-of-a-Kind Housing
In 1993, Jo Ann Ussery experienced a shocking loss when a storm wrecked her house. With not much money and two kids to look after, she needed to come up with a creative solution. Her brother-in-law, who worked as an air traffic controller, came up with a unique idea: why not turn an airplane into her new home? This amazing story highlights how Jo Ann turned a plane into something truly special.
Ussery bought an old Boeing 727 that was no longer in service for only $2,000, not including the shipping fees. She called it “Little Trump” after Donald Trump’s personal jet. The plane became her project, and she put in less than $30,000 to fix up the inside, turning it into one of the coolest makeovers ever.
Major Refurbishment
The Boeing 727, which is 138 feet long, had almost 1,500 square feet of space, perfect for turning it into something new. Ussery decided to park the plane facing the lake on her land, giving a beautiful view from what used to be the cockpit. This was just one of the many clever ideas that demonstrated how a woman turned an old plane into a beautiful and useful home.
Ussery created a cool living space by adding three bedrooms, a kitchen, a laundry room, and a master bathroom inside. The cockpit was changed into a fancy bathroom with a soaking tub that has a view of the lake. Even though the outside still looked like an airplane, the inside turned into a warm and stylish home.
A Plane House Like No Other
Ussery had an amazing idea that showed how a retired airplane could be turned into a stunning home. She lived in her plane house for a few years before deciding to turn it into a museum. Sadly, while it was being moved, the plane got damaged and couldn’t be fixed. Still, her story is a great example of how a woman can create something really special from an old airplane.
