Katy Perry recently took to social media to honor her long-time manager, Martin Kirkup, who passed away at the age of 76. In her heartfelt Instagram post, Katy shared several photos of their time together and reflected on Martin’s significant influence on her life.
Although Martin was not a fan of social media, Katy felt it was important to acknowledge his impact. She wrote, “It took me a while to make this post…something about posting it makes it all feel final.” She continued, “Even though Martin didn’t like social media, I feel compelled to express how important he was and still is to me.”
Katy spoke about Martin’s enduring presence, saying, “I don’t think anyone really ‘dies.’ I think they just move on to the next world. They’re no longer here; they’re everywhere now.”
Martin, a prominent figure at Direct Management, had been Katy’s manager for nearly 20 years. She praised his leadership, saying, “He always said, ‘Show me the data, the P&L, the science, the facts!’ He was our leader. When nothing else worked, he’d say something cheeky, clever, or eloquent with an English accent, and everyone would agree with him.”
Katy also highlighted Martin’s role in her success and safety: “Martin helped keep me safe. He worked hard to get me what I deserved and praised the strong woman I am.” She expressed her gratitude for her team: “I’ve been so lucky to have an AMAZING team by my side for almost 20 years, even before I had a kitchen sink or a window to throw things out of!”
