Jo Ann Ussery’s Unique Home Solution
In 1993, Jo Ann Ussery faced a significant challenge after her home was destroyed in Mississippi.
With limited funds, she struggled to find a suitable new home for herself and her children. Her brother-in-law proposed an unconventional solution—living in a decommissioned Boeing 727 airplane.
Transforming the Aircraft
Jo Ann purchased the entire Boeing 727, including shipping, for just $2,000. She invested approximately $30,000 to transform the aircraft into a fully functional home.
The 138-foot-long airplane was creatively redesigned to include three bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen, a laundry room, and a luxurious master bathroom located in the cockpit.
A Lasting Legacy
After enjoying her unique home for several years, Jo Ann decided to share its innovative design with others by converting it into a museum.
Despite severe damage during transportation, her remarkable transformation of the aircraft stands as a testament to her creativity and resilience.
